Overlake Hospital Medical Center, a 337 bed, nonprofit regional medical center located in Bellevue, Washington (on Lake Washington just outside of Seattle) is seeking an experienced Coding Manager who relishes developing staff, continually searching to improve the department's effectiveness, and thinking forward to incorporate the newest regulations and trends into the hospital's coding practices.
Reporting to the Director of Medical Staff Services & Health Information Management, you will have overall responsibility for the management of the coding department which includes recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring and performance management. You also will facilitate the structure, process, oversight and accountability of organizational coding and health data collection activities to ensure accurate provider documentation and coding (ICD-9 and CPT) as it relates to appropriate, compliant and optimal reporting and reimbursement of health care services. Your responsibilities will also include serving as a resource and liaison in the organization for all coding related topics, issues and questions.

Your team will include 19 coders and a Charge Entry Coordinator.
Candidate Responsibilities:
Managing the coding functions, which includes coding for the hospital facility, ambulatory surgical services, outpatient services and clinic based services and assuring that coding practices meet all the correct coding and compliance standards.
Building effective working relationships throughout the organization with managers, staff, physicians, customers and suppliers.
Identifying patterns, trends and variations in coding or claim data submitted and taking appropriate steps in collaboration with the right department to effect resolution or explanation of the variance. Performing analysis of coded data to facilitate decision making and to identify risks and gaps.
Conducting appropriate audits and/or responds to findings and recommendations of external compliance assessments and audits as related to coding issues. Preparing appeals when appropriate.
Designing processes and procedures to capture coded data to assure accurate and timely retrieval.
Serving as the facility representative for coding and reimbursement and attending revenue cycle, chargemaster, compliance and other related meetings. Acting as a resource to physician on coding issues and provide education to physicians.
Maintaining current knowledge of coding applications; recommending new functionality, actively participating in building and implementation of all systems that impact coding.
Maintaining current knowledge of regulatory issues and practices related to area of expertise and leading change when needed to ensure compliance.

Candidate Requirements:
-Associate's degree, with Bachelor's preferred.
-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential.
-Three (3+) years coding systems experience within a hospital setting.
-One (1+) years supervisory experience.
-Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements, IS and Health Information Systems.
-Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and APC coding guidelines.
