Reimbursement Management Consultants, Inc. (RMC) is searching for a Remote Coding Specialist – Hospital Division to work from their home office.
POSITION DETAILS:
The successful candidate will be responsible for coding charts, customer service and compliance audits for accounts selected by the Director of Coding Services by performing the following duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following, other duties maybe assigned.
- Performs coding support and/or reviews on patient medical records as needed and directed by the Director of Coding Services and/or Client. Performs services with a 95% accuracy.
- Identifies the necessary tools needed to perform their duties effectively including Client specific typed abstracting procedures, completed and accurate coding questionnaires, current encoders or code books and current references including Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, Fay Brown’s ICD-9-CM Coding Handbook and Coder’s Desk Reference. Notifies Director of Coding Services immediately if necessary items are missing at for a particular client.
- Completes coding log and other documents accurately and as required.
- Makes recommendations for improving services through staff education and client services.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient health information at all times and notifies compliance officer immediately regarding any perceived or suspected breaches in confidentiality, violations of the code of conduct or any other issues viewed as inappropriate.
- Maintains contact with corporate office, clients and staff including utilizing a cellular telephone for business use, voicemail and email which must be checked daily and responded to within 24 hours of receipt.
- Minimal travels may be required.
- Works Saturdays and Sundays as needed.
- Exhibits ethical and respectful conduct at all times. Represents RMC in a professional manner.
CANDIDATE Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum of five years, but preferably seven to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must have (1) current credential as follows: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC.
Licenses:
Valid drivers license and must meet insurance underwriting requirements
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as chart counts, percentages if necessary, etc.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Encoder skills, coding skills, and experience in utilize coding tools.
