As Inpatient Coder, in West Reading, Pennsylvania, you will be responsible for reviewing medical records in order to assign the appropriate diagnoses codes, procedure codes and corresponding DRG assignment, following all UHDDS and AHA coding guidelines. Additionally, you will assign the charge disposition, present on-admission indicators, and sequence the episodes for all procedure codes and collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Specialist team to ensure appropriate clinical documentation within the patient’s medical record. You will also be responsible for contacting physicians in writing for clarification regarding the assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes.
Candidate Qualifications:
.High School Diploma or GED
.2 years of experience in ICD 9 CM coding and MSDRG assignment for inpatient medical records
.Thorough knowledge of Federal, State and third party payor guidelines, rules and regulations related to inpatient coding
.Associate Degree in Health Information Management or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management Administration preferred; combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree
.Completion of a coding program through AHIMA preferred
.AAPC Certified Professional Coder preferred
.AHIMA Clinical Coding Specialist CCS, AHIMA CSA, AHIMA RHIA and AHIMA RHIT preferred
.3 years of experience working with electronic coding systems, electronic health records preferred
.In depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and medical terminology preferred
